The Wales Accord on the Sharing of Personal Information (WASPI) has been shortlisted for Privacy Team of the Year and Governance Team of the Year at the GRC World Forums Risk awards which celebrate global excellence in Governance, Risk and Compliance.
WASPI is a common set of principles and standards which support the sharing of personal information to deliver services to the people of Wales. The Accord has grown from strength to strength, and now has over 300 information sharing protocols in place across Wales published on the WASPI public website and more than 750 organisations signed up and committed to WASPI.
Service Manager Dave Parsons said, “This growth is due to the dedication and commitment of the people within the team who have also been instrumental over the past year in developing proposals to further enhance the framework into a potential ICO approved Code of Conduct.”
The Information Commissioner’s office (ICO) wants to deliver a programme of Codes of Conduct to enable organisations to demonstrate their commitment to compliance. The work completed to date has placed WASPI as a frontrunner in becoming one of the first, if not the first, ICO approved UK-wide Code of Conduct.
The outcome on the consultation for the Code of Conduct proposal is due to be published during the Autumn. The team has welcomed feedback to the proposal with comments from a variety of public sector organisations including: “this is a positive step towards increased data sharing to benefit citizens, and to build confidence in public authorities which lack the confidence to share data by providing a clear set of tools and principles, as well as external audit and assurance.”
WASPI has been shortlisted for the Governance Team of the Year award alongside teams from companies including YouGov, HSBC, TikTok, Vodafone and M&S; and Privacy Team of the Year award alongside teams including BT, Emirates, Bumble and Cognizant. The winners will be announced on December 6th, 2023.
