DHCW to lead and enable Research and Innovation

3 November 2022

DHCW is establishing a renewed focus in the area of research and innovation, growing on the work it already undertakes with partner organisations across Wales in the areas of improvement, innovation and research in health and social care.

Research and innovation can increase the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare and can support healthcare organisations and services to provide better care for people.

A small, dedicated team and function will coordinate and support research and innovation work across DHCW and build on the work that is already taking place.  Rachael Powell, Associate Director of Information, Intelligence and Research said,

“DHCW is an organisation that leads and collaborates in high quality data and digital research and innovation to improve service and health outcomes for the citizens of Wales. We have a portfolio of new innovative projects and exciting opportunities, for example, with the National Data Resource.

“This renewed focus will give the organisation a front door for this activity in the future.”

The new DHCW Research and Innovation strategy was approved at the last DHCW Board meeting in September and builds on the organisation’s well-established role of working in partnership with other NHS organisations, universities, Welsh Government and other bodies to enable high profile projects and activities.
