The Welsh Immunisation System (WIS) has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Digital Leaders Impact Award 2022. The awards are a celebration of UK tech for good. Digital Health and Care Wales is one of three top finalists in the Pandemic Innovation category for the WIS, which provides the management, distribution and reporting for the COVID 19 vaccination programme in Wales.
The judging panel were highly impressed by the digital solution the DHCW team developed to support the successful vaccination programme, and will make a final decision on the award at the ceremony on 10th March.
Wales is the only part of the UK to develop a digital vaccine management solution using an existing in-house software team. WIS tracks vaccine stock, creates appointment slots, sends out appointment letters, and records details about each vaccine administered.
The system was applauded by the Chief Operating Officer for the Welsh Vaccine Programme, Jeremy Griffith,
“Having spoken to colleagues in the UK, USA, France, NZ and Australia – they are all amazed by what WIS can do. It has been the foundation to delivering one of the fastest and best uptake vaccine programmes in the whole world. The team have not only built a good system but have adapted the system at very short notice – when the time from decision to action has been hours and days.”
An overall People’s Choice award will also be announced at the award ceremony next month, and a public vote for this is open until 9th March.
