Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance team - finalists in NHS Wales Awards 2023

2nd August 2023

The awards celebrate excellence in health and care across Wales. The team has been shortlisted in the category for enriching the wellbeing, capability and engagement of the health and care workforce.

The nominated project aims to reduce the level of additional workload on staff and reduce work-related stress across the organisation while maintaining health and care standards.

The project – increasing audit efficiency and inspiring internal auditors of the future – resulted in a 67% reduction in the number of internal audits conducted across DHCW. The winners are set to be announced at a ceremony in Cardiff on Thursday, 26th October.

DHCW’s Head of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance Paul Evans said:

“The changes implemented not only have clear health and wellbeing benefits to the workforce, but also offer career development opportunities because any member of staff across the organisation can sign up. The team formed in May 2021 and is constantly evolving, and this nomination is a testament to their hard work and collaboration.”

Helen Thomas, CEO of Digital Health and Care Wales, said:

"I'm delighted to see the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance team has been shortlisted in the NHS Wales Awards. This nomination is a reflection of the team’s dedication and hard work in improving audit efficiency and inspiring internal auditors of the future.”

A judging panel of NHS experts will take part in virtual visits with each finalist to find out more about their projects before the winners are announced.

There are eight award categories, with 24 projects selected as finalists.

The awards recognise the ways in which innovative ideas for change can make a significant difference to patients, organisations and the wider health and care system. It is an opportunity to showcase hardworking and inspiring teams who are striving to improve healthcare practices and patient care across Wales.

Organisers said there was an “overwhelming” number of submissions this year, highlighting the incredible improvement work taking place across the NHS Wales.

One judge commented:

“It has been truly inspiring to read so many fantastic entries by teams and organisations across our NHS in Wales. It is a privilege to take time to shortlist the projects and to see the details of how improvements are being made to the care we provide for our all our service users.”
