Diabetes management system launched in North Wales

20 January 2025

The Welsh Information Solution for Diabetes Management (WISDM) system is now live in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) Central.

WISDM is accessed via the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP) and is used by consultants, nurses, podiatrists, dietitians, obstetricians and gynaecologists as well as health care assistants and administrative staff, to support diabetes care.

This successful collaboration between DHCW Business Change, WISDM project team and BCUHB Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) team continues to bring the transition to paperless diabetes care one step closer.

Mandy Rees-Saunders, Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist for BCUHB, said: “I was absolutely delighted to see we would be able to write our clinical notes on a system that is accessed by more than one service.

“WCP is the nearest thing we have to a universal system to see tests, information and results for different services all in one place, so it makes sense we can put our diabetes clinical notes where other services can see it, especially where we refer to other specialisms, and we can see their notes without having to click back between several different systems.

“WISDM is time saving, modern and accessible, making my job a lot easier and allowing me to focus on the clinical aspect going forward in a time poor environment. We’re using an existing system in a more intelligent way.”

WISDM previously went live in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) West in December 2023. Roll out across the rest of North Wales will continue this year.
