DHCW sponsors RCN Wales Nurse of the Year 2025

09 December 2025

Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) was delighted to sponsor one of the awards at this year’s RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Awards 2025. The awards, held in November, are an annual celebration that honours nurses across Wales who go above and beyond to improve patient care and advance the profession.

The Research, Innovation and Digitalisation in Nursing Award was won by Victoria Hayman-Teear, senior nurse at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

This award seeks to recognise and reward excellence in nursing and midwifery where research, innovation or digitalisation (including preliminary work such as pilot studies, clinical audits, or service improvement) has demonstrated tangible benefits to patient care. It acknowledges nurses and midwives who have enhanced the patient experience through their evidence-based innovations which have driven and/or influenced change.

Victoria said: “I'm genuinely honoured to receive this award. Digital nursing isn’t about gadgets or systems; it’s about providing patients with better, safer, and more connected care, as well as supporting our workforce to thrive.

“The projects recognised, such as our work on Healthy.io and the ANCLE Café, are only possible because of the incredible teams I work alongside every day. I'm grateful to DHCW for sponsoring this category and for championing digital innovation in community care.”

Presenting the award, Frances Beadle, Chief Nursing Information Officer at DHCW, said: Innovation in nursing is at the heart of what we do at DHCW. Sponsoring this award allows us to celebrate those driving digital change on the front line, ensuring patients receive the best possible care through smarter, connected systems.”

The ceremony brought together nursing professionals from across health and social care in Wales, recognising achievements in education, research, and patient-centred care. Winners included nurses in areas such as wound care digitalisation and structured training for community nursing teams.

The sponsorship reflects DHCW’s commitment to supporting innovation and collaboration across NHS Wales. As an organisation empowering nurses with tools that improve efficiency, reduce duplication, and enhance patient safety, align perfectly with the ethos of the RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Awards.

Helen Thomas, Chief Executive at DHCW said: “I am delighted that DHCW was able to sponsor the RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Awards this year. These awards have highlighted how technology, research, and digital are changing healthcare in Wales. By using digital tools, we improve patient care and help NHS Wales nurses provide safer, smarter, and more coordinated care.  Congratulations to all the nominees and winners.”

Helen Whyley, Executive Director, RCN Wales, added: “The support from DHCW enabled us to make this prestigious event a significant success, showcasing how highly nurses, midwives, students, and healthcare support workers are valued within Wales.”
