In March 2024, a cross-organisational team handling important national data in Wales achieved an important milestone in updating and improving its use of data, by migrating its data operations to the National Data Resource’s cloud-based platform.
The NHS Executive, responsible for providing vital data to the Welsh Government from all Health Boards and Trusts in Wales, has modernised how it stores crucial datasets from an in-house system to using the National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP). This platform is a cloud-based service created and operated by the National Data Resource (NDR) and Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW).
The NHS Executive’s digital intelligence team has worked extensively with the NDR’s NDAP and Advanced Analytics teams and has become the first organisation in Wales to make full use of the NDAP.
In the short-term, this project’s success allows the NHS Executive to benefit from a more modern and resilient data system. Looking ahead, shifting to NDAP will enable access to advanced analytics tools and improve the efficiency, accuracy and timeliness of data provision through streamlined pipelines. This, in turn, will ease the burden on Health Board and Trust data providers.
