A recent update to the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP) means that health professionals across Wales are now able to access digital copies of their patients’ endoscopy and bronchoscopy test results from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.
The ability to view this data via a single log on to the WCP means clinicians in other health boards can now receive real-time updates on their patients’ test results within their single digital health record. This information would previously have only been available to access via a completely separate system.
Gastroenterology consultant, Minesh Patel, said the update was a significant advancement for the system and helps to save him time, as it, “allows all clinicians in Wales to view these [test results], which is a great improvement for patient care.”
The WCP is available to clinicians in all health boards across Wales and Velindre Cancer Centre. It shares and displays digital patient information from a number of sources, even if that information is spread across health organisations. The Portal allows clinicians to have access to up-to-date and accurate patient records at the point of care, removing the need to request copies or in some instances, repeating investigations.
Each month, over one million test results are viewed via the WCP by health professionals all across Wales. One in ten of these results viewed originates from another health board.
Endoscopy and bronchoscopy test results are currently only available from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board within the WCP. However, work is currently underway to include endoscopy data from Hywel Dda, Powys and Swansea Bay health boards.
