All health care professionals benefit from the new Digital Paediatric Growth Chart Wales system

15 December 2026

Digital Growth Chart Wales is transforming the way we monitor children's growth across Wales.

Developed by Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health together with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians in Wales, this system allows clinicians to record, store, and review essential growth data including such as height, weight, and head circumference, through the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP).

Hospitals throughout Wales are transitioning from traditional paper growth charts to a unified digital solution accessible across the child health journey. This advancement means clinicians can now access accurate, up-to-date growth trends quickly and securely, enabling them to identify potential health concerns earlier.

The Digital Growth Chart Wales system will be available to over 40,000 health care professionals across Wales, via the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP). Using just one login, the Cymru nadex professionals can access comprehensive patient data from multiple sources, all in one place. Monitoring a child’s growth is crucial for detecting health issues and supporting early intervention. Previously, growth data was often recorded on separate charts or systems by various professionals, leading to fragmented records and missing information. Digital Growth Chart Wales addresses this by consolidating everything into one unified, accessible platform.

Dr. David Tuthill, a Consultant Paediatrician at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “Digital Growth Chart Wales will transform how we track and share paediatric growth measures across health board boundaries. It’s a significant step towards our long-term goal of unified access to growth data across NHS Wales systems and services.”

Rhidian Hurle, Medical Director at DHCW, commented: “With the introduction of the Digital Growth Chart system, we are changing the way paediatric growth data is shared across Wales and making a genuine positive impact on child health in NHS Wales.”
