Alistair combines 20 years of leadership roles with private sector multinationals with 2 decades as a public sector chief executive. After Unilever, he became marketing director for a BP division in the UK, before 12 years in CEO roles for BP and Masco Corp working in the Pacific Rim, Europe, USA and Asia. Moving into local government as CEO of Merthyr Tydfil CB Council, he led important improvements in that region. Alistair was then recruited to the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, leading 2 published capability reviews of major government departments in Whitehall.

After being CEO of Southampton City Council, Alistair became CEO of Herefordshire County Council for 8 years. As a local government CEO, this included overall responsibility for social care, public health, joint working with the NHS, other health providers and local communities. Alistair led the pandemic response until 2021, having been lead CEO for the west midlands region in joint working of health and social care, and in children’s services improvements. Alistair is now a County Councillor and Chair of their Performance and Overview Committee. He has lived in Abergavenny for 28 years and has been awarded the George Medal, the National Police Bravery Medal, 2 Leading Wales Awards for the public sector and all sectors, and the Pride of Britain Award.
