Prescriptions

Request repeat prescriptions

Patients can request repeat prescriptions through the NHS Wales App. Online prescription requests are automatically received and processed in the GP clinical system as before.

Using the NHS Wales App, patients may be able to:

  • order repeat prescriptions
  • check if their ordered prescriptions have been approved or rejected
  • find medicines prescribed by their practice and repeat medicines ordered through their pharmacy

To order repeat prescriptions, patients should go to Prescriptions and select Order a prescription.

Prescriptions may not show in the App if:

  • the prescription has expired or is due for review
  • it's too early to order
  • it’s an acute or one-off prescription
  • it was issued outside the App (for example, by a pharmacy or hospital)
  • the medication is hidden from the online care record

Non-repeat prescriptions cannot currently be ordered through the App. The patient will need to contact their practice.

Patients can check the status of their requested repeat prescriptions by selecting View my prescription orders.

Your practice can add a note explaining why they’re rejecting a prescription request, which will be visible in the App for the patient to see.

Adding patient notes

Patients can add a note about their prescription if the practice has enabled this feature in the App. For example, it can be used to say where the patient would like to collect their prescription from if there's more than one location.

Your practice can make the note field:

  • mandatory
  • optional
  • disabled

Online care record (EMIS)

If your practice uses the EMIS system, make sure 'online visibility' is set to 'display' on the patient's online care record. If it's set to 'hidden', the patient will not be able to view and order repeat prescriptions through the App.
