Community nurses in the Neath Port Talbot area are using mobile devices to access the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP) and reduce the number of times they return to base each day.
The ABMU Health Board's Mobilisation Project is allowing nurses to access the WCP in the community at the point of care. The nurses can see patient demographics, blood results and GP record summaries.
The project is a key element of the ABMU 'Destination: Digital' strategy and a forerunner toward the adoption of national programmes including the Welsh Community Care Information System (WCCIS).
The nurses have been using iPads, and mobile resource tool, MobileIron, to access the WCP and other applications.
"It is excellent to see this project rolling out across clusters and freeing up clinical time so that staff can do what matters to them most, and that is seeing the people in the community and reducing time spent at the desk," said Abertawe Bro Morgannwg's Head of Nursing and Community Services, Tanya Spriggs.
The Mobilisation Project has been funded through the Welsh Government 'Efficiency through Technology Fund.'
