Welsh Government allocates £3m toward improved technology access for health staff and patients
Speaking at the Digital Health and Care Conference in Cardiff this month, the health secretary said the money would form part of a new three year Digital Inclusion and Health programme which would help staff and patients engage with technology and support people to access and manage their medical information online.
"Having the skills and motivation to access digital health services can help people better manage their conditions, whilst helping to reduce the burden on under pressure NHS services," Gething said.
"The National Survey for Wales 2017-18 showed that 60% of people in Wales aged 75 and over and 26% of disabled people are digitally excluded. These people are also more likely to access health and social care services than the rest of the population. It is vital we improve their ability to access digital services."

Cardiff & Vale latest to pilot digital clinic letters
Secondary Care clinicians in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are the latest to pilot a system to send their clinic letters electronically to primary care settings in Wales via the Welsh Clinical Communication Gateway (WCCG).
Clinic letters
are often sent from consultants to GPs and include summaries of the
outpatient consultation, advice on patient management and further details of the patient's journey. Sending them electronically saves time, reduces errors, is easier to read and benefits patient care. It also means GPs can access clinical correspondence even if they are working from home.
Since first piloted in 2015, more than a million letters have been sent electronically.

e-Learning training boost for clinical coders
NHS Wales Informatics Service have embarked on the creation of a new suite of e-Learning products designed to improve the recording of clinical information.
Health boards in Wales record a range of information about the types of diseases, injuries, and other conditions people who come into hospital are diagnosed with, as well as the procedures and interventions that are performed to treat them. Each organisation has a dedicated department of clinical coders who are responsible for translating this information into internationally recognised classifications so that NHS Wales can report on the activity that takes place.
NHS Wales Informatics Service has begun a programme of online e-Learning modules for these staff, the first of its kind in the UK. Covering the clinical information around a topic, combined with the statistical impact of the information, and the rules governing appropriate recording standards, these modules are designed to ensure that the information is comparable regardless of where and when it was recorded. The first module, on the diagnosis and treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, has now gone live for all Welsh Health Boards.
"The job of coding is a complex and technical one," explains David Dawes, the National Training Programme Lead for Clinical Classifications. "By producing standardised training with a high quality clinical and statistical basis, we can make sure that the information we record is of the best quality possible. And by doing it online, we can make sure it's available to more users as and when it's needed, unlike our current classroom based courses."
In addition to the initial module, work is ongoing on a range of further specialities, including bladder conditions and the diagnosis and treatment of fractures.

Choose Pharmacy goes national
Choose Pharmacy is now available in all eligible pharmacies in Wales.
The service allows patients with minor ailments to be treated by their community pharmacist, rather than waiting to see a GP. The Choose Pharmacy digital application, which underpins the service, allowing electronic patient records to be transferred between Welsh community pharmacies, was created and is supported by NHS Wales Informatics Service.
During the month of October, 28,240 flu vaccinations across Wales were recorded using the Choose Pharmacy application and additional services are continuing to be made available.

Commercial Services Team scoops trio of procurement awards
We are pleased to announce that our Commercial Services Team won three awards at this year's 'Go Awards Wales.'
The 'Go Awards Wales' celebrate excellence in public procurement in Wales, and included categories in leadership, infrastructure, innovation and community benefit.
The Commercial Services Team was presented with the award for 'Innovation of the Year,' for our work with the Patient Reported Outcomes and 'Experience Measures Programme, and Procurement Project of the Year' for the GP Systems and Services Procurement.
We were delighted to then be put forward for and win the 'Go Excellence Wales' Award which recognises the best overall contribution to the advancement of procurement in Wales.

Wales secures public sector emails
All emails sent across the majority of public sector organisations in Wales are now secure and encrypted following a combined effort between NHS Wales Informatics Service and Public Sector Wales. It means emails sent between organisations such as local government, police, fire and NHS are now encrypted between all parties.
While this ensures all messages are secured, it does not stop any misdirection (sending the email to the wrong recipient) or data leakage (sending sensitive information to the wrong recipient), and staff still need to take care to ensure the correct email recipient is selected.
Work is continuing to ensure NHS Wales can have secure email communications with both NHS England and with private healthcare providers.

Fully committed to improvements
Following the publication of the Public Accounts Committee review of NHS Wales IT systems and services NHS Wales Chief Information Officer and Director NHS Wales Informatics Service, Andrew Griffiths, has said:
"We are fully committed to addressing the recommendations raised in the review and we are working collaboratively with Welsh Government to do this.
"A number of changes are already underway to improve the national IT platform and strengthen resilience. Work is ongoing to upgrade and improve our data centres and we have implemented a robust approach to cyber security on par with global standards. A new cancer care IT system is in development, alongside improvements to the legacy cancer care system to ensure it meets clinical needs and to mitigate potential vulnerabilities.
"I would like to emphasise that we have made significant digital progress over the past decade and Wales is the first nation where test results and clinical notes are available wherever the patient receives care - creating a seamless patient record. A big achievement with a massive impact on the way care is delivered.
"However, what is clear from the review is that continuing and adequate investment in IT is essential to manage both existing services and to develop new modern applications.
"I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the skills, competency and dedication of our informatics workforce, which is vital to maintain existing infrastructure and to advance the use of healthtech in NHS Wales.
"We know that modern tech is vital to deliver health and care now and in the future and we look forwarding to working on improvements with our partners in health boards and trusts."

Wrth siarad yn y Gynhadledd Iechyd a Gofal Digidol yng Nghaerdydd y mis hwn, dywedodd yr Ysgrifennydd Iechyd y byddai'r arian yn ffurfio rhan o raglen Cynhwysiant Digidol ac Iechyd tair blynedd newydd a fyddai'n helpu staff a chleifion i ymgysylltu â thechnoleg a chynorthwyo pobl i gyrchu a rheoli eu gwybodaeth feddygol ar-lein.
"Gall cael y sgiliau a'r cymhelliant i gyrchu gwasanaethau iechyd digidol helpu pobl i reoli eu cyflyrau'n well, wrth helpu i leihau'r baich ar wasanaethau'r GIG sydd dan bwysau," dywedodd Gething. "Dangosodd Arolwg Cenedlaethol Cymru 2017-18 fod 60% o bobl Cymru, 75 oed a hyn, a 26% o bobl anabl, wedi cael eu heithrio'n ddigidol. Clinigwyr gofal eilaidd ym Mwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Caerdydd a'r Fro yw'r diweddaraf i beilota system i anfon eu llythyrau clinig yn electronig i leoliadau gofal sylfaenol yng Nghymru trwy Borth Cyfathrebu Clinigol Cymru .
Caiff llythyrau clinig eu hanfon yn aml o ymgynghorwyr i feddygon teulu, ac maent yn cynnwys crynodebau o'r ymgynghoriad claf allanol, cyngor ar reoli'r claf, a manylion pellach am daith y claf. Mae eu hanfon nhw'n electronig yn arbed amser, yn lleihau gwallau, maent yn haws i'w darllen, ac maent o fudd i ofal cleifion. Mae hefyd yn golygu y gall meddygon teulu gyrchu gohebiaeth glinigol hyd yn oed os ydynt yn gweithio o adref.

Hyfforddiant e-ddysgu yn rhoi hwb i godwyr clinigol
Mae Gwasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru wedi dechrau creu cyfres newydd o gynhyrchion e-ddysgu wedi'u cynllunio i wella cofnodi gwybodaeth glinigol.
Mae byrddau iechyd Cymru yn cofnodi amrywiaeth o wybodaeth am y mathau o glefydau, anafiadau a chyflyrau eraill y mae pobl sy'n dod i'r ysbyty yn cael diagnosis ohonynt, yn ogystal â'r gweithdrefnau a'r ymyriadau a gyflawnir i'w trin nhw. Mae gan bob sefydliad adran bwrpasol o godwyr clinigol sy'n gyfrifol am drosi'r wybodaeth hon yn ddosbarthiadau a gydnabyddir yn rhyngwladol, er mwyn i GIG Cymru allu adrodd ar y gweithgarwch sy'n digwydd.
Mae Gwasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru wedi dechrau rhaglen o fodiwlau e-ddysgu ar-lein ar gyfer y staff hyn, y cyntaf o'i math yn y DU. Mae'n ymdrin â gwybodaeth glinigol am bwnc, wedi'i chyfuno ag effaith ystadegol y wybodaeth, a'r rheolau sy'n llywodraethu safonau cofnodi priodol, ac mae'r modiwlau hyn wedi cael eu cynllunio i sicrhau fod y wybodaeth yn gymaradwy ni waeth ble a phryd y cafodd ei chofnodi. "Trwy gynhyrchu hyfforddiant safonedig gyda sylfaen clinigol ac ystadegol o ansawdd uchel, gallwn wneud yn siwr fod y wybodaeth rydym ni'n ei chofnodi o'r ansawdd gorau posibl. Ac wrth ei wneud ar-lein, gallwn sicrhau ei bod hi ar gael i fwy o ddefnyddwyr pan fo'i hangen, sy'n wahanol i'n cyrsiau presennol yn yr ystafell ddosbarth."
Yn ogystal â'r modiwl cychwynnol, mae gwaith yn parhau ar amrywiaeth o arbenigeddau eraill, gan gynnwys cyflyrau'r bledren, a rhoi diagnosis a thrin toriadau.

Dewis Fferyllfa ar gael yn genedlaethol
Mae Dewis Fferyllfa bellach ar gael ym mhob fferyllfa cymwys yng Nghymru.
Mae'r gwasanaeth yn caniatáu i gleifion â mân anhwylderau gael eu trin gan eu fferyllydd cymunedol, yn hytrach na gorfod aros i weld meddyg teulu, Cafodd y cymhwysiad digidol, Dewis Fferyllfa, sy'n tanategu'r gwasanaeth, ac sy'n caniatáu i gofnodion cleifion electronig gael eu trosglwyddo rhwng fferyllfeydd cymunedol Cymru, ei greu, a chaiff ei gefnogi gan Wasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru.
Yn ystod mis Hydref, cofnodwyd 28,240 o frechiadau'r ffliw ledled Cymru, gan ddefnyddio'r cymhwysiad Dewis Fferyllfa, ac mae gwasanaethau ychwanegol yn parhau i gael eu gwneud ar gael.

Mae'n bleser gennym ni gyhoeddi bod ein Tîm Gwasanaethau Masnachol wedi ennill tair gwobr yng 'Ngwobrau GO Cymru' eleni.
Mae 'Gwobrau Go Cymru' yn dathlu rhagoriaeth mewn caffael cyhoeddus yng Nghymru, ac roedd yn cynnwys categorïau o ran arweinyddiaeth, seilwaith, arloesedd a budd cymunedol.
Cyflwynwyd gwobr i'r Tîm Gwasanaethau Masnachol am 'Arloesedd y Flwyddyn', am ein gwaith gyda Rhaglen Mesurau Deilliannau a Phrofiad a Adroddwyd gan Gleifion, a Phrosiect Caffael y Flwyddyn ar gyfer Caffael Gwasanaethau a Systemau Meddygon Teulu.

Mae'r holl negeseuon e-bost a anfonir ar draws y mwyafrif o sefydliadau'r sector cyhoeddus yng Nghymru bellach yn ddiogel ac wedi cael eu hamgryptio, yn dilyn ymdrech ar y cyd rhwng Gwasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru a sector cyhoeddus Cymru. Mae'n golygu bod y negeseuon e-bost sy'n cael eu hanfon rhwng sefydliadau fel y llywodraeth leol, yr heddlu, y gwasanaeth tân, a'r GIG bellach wedi cael eu hamgryptio rhwng yr holl bartïon.
Er bod hyn yn sicrhau bod yr holl negeseuon yn ddiogel, nid yw'n atal camgyfeirio (anfon neges e-bost at y derbynnydd anghywir) na gollwng data (anfon gwybodaeth sensitif at y derbynnydd anghywir), ac mae angen i staff fod yn ofalus o hyd i sicrhau eu bod nhw'n dewis y derbynnydd e-bost cywir.

Yn dilyn cyhoeddi adolygiad y Pwyllgor Cyfrifon Cyhoeddus o systemau a gwasanaethau TG GIG Cymru, dywedodd Prif Swyddog Gwybodaeth GIG Cymru, a Chyfarwyddwr Gwasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru, Andrew Griffiths:
"Rydym ni'n gyfan gwbl ymroddedig i fynd i'r afael â'r argymhellion a godwyd yn yr adolygiad ac rydym ni'n cydweithio â Llywodraeth Cymru i wneud hyn.
"Mae nifer o newidiadau eisoes ar waith i wella'r llwyfan TG cenedlaethol a chryfhau gwydnwch. Mae gwaith yn parhau i uwchraddio a gwella ein canolfannau data, ac rydym wedi gweithredu ymagwedd gadarn at ddiogelwch seibr sy'n cyfateb i safonau byd-eang. Mae system TG gofal canser newydd wrthi'n cael ei datblygu, ynghyd â gwneud gwelliannau i'r system gofal canser etifeddol i sicrhau ei bod yn bodloni anghenion clinigol, a chael gwared ar unrhyw wendidau posibl.
"Hoffwn bwysleisio ein bod ni wedi gwneud cynnydd digidol sylweddol dros y degawd diwethaf, a Chymru yw'r genedl gyntaf lle mae canlyniadau profion a nodiadau clinigol ar gael ble bynnag mae'r claf yn cael gofal - sy'n creu cofnod claf di-dor. Cyflawniad mawr sy'n cael effaith enfawr ar y ffordd y caiff gofal ei gyflwyno.
"Fodd bynnag, beth sy'n glir o'r adolygiad yw ei bod hi'n hanfodol cael buddsoddiad digidol, parhaus mewn TG, er mwyn rheoli'r gwasanaethau presennol a datblygu cymwysiadau modern, newydd.
"Hoffwn achub ar y cyfle hwn i gydnabod sgiliau, gallu ac ymroddiad ein gweithlu gwybodeg, sy'n hanfodol i gynnal y seilwaith presennol a datblygu'r defnydd o dechnoleg iechyd yn GIG Cymru.
