Community Nurses access Welsh Clinical Portal 'on the go'

Community nurses in the Neath Port Talbot area are using mobile devices to access the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP) and reduce the number of times they return to base each day.

The ABMU Health Board's Mobilisation Project is allowing nurses to access the WCP in the community at the point of care. The nurses can see patient demographics, blood results and GP record summaries.

The project is a key element of the ABMU 'Destination: Digital' strategy and a forerunner toward the adoption of national programmes including the Welsh Community Care Information System (WCCIS).

The nurses have been using iPads, and mobile resource tool, MobileIron, to access the WCP and other applications.

"It is excellent to see this project rolling out across clusters and freeing up clinical time so that staff can do what matters to them most, and that is seeing the people in the community and reducing time spent at the desk," said Abertawe Bro Morgannwg's Head of Nursing and Community Services, Tanya Spriggs.

The Mobilisation Project has been funded through the Welsh Government 'Efficiency through Technology Fund.'
New child health system goes live

A new child health system, the Children and Young Persons Integrated System (CYPrIS), has gone live in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

The CYPrIS application, developed by NHS Wales Informatics Service, ensures that every child in Wales has an active care record. Clinicians will now have access to more information about a child's health and will be able to make more informed decisions about care options.

The CYPrIS application is the fourth of its kind to be developed by NHS Wales Informatics Service and provides comprehensive functionality for a number of national health programmes, such as the National Childhood Immunisation and Healthy Child Wales programmes.

Its use also supports the overall management of child health by providing data and statutory reporting requirements to NHS Wales and Public Health Wales.

"The launch of this new system means that, for the first time, there is a single, national repository for all child health data," says  Gill Davison, NHS Wales Informatics Service's Community Application Manager.  "With this improved access to information, healthcare professionals could start to see an increase in the uptake of immunisation and screening services where gaps in health records are identified."

"I'd like to thank Aneurin Bevan Child Health Office for all the support they have provided to our teams during this phase of development," she added.

CYPrIS will continue to roll out across health boards during 2018 and 2019. The application will be developed further to include a number of key integrations such as the GP interface and the Welsh Care Community Information System (WCCIS).
Collaborative working group aims for Cerebral Palsy innovation

A new project is underway focusing on creating a national register and improving services in Wales for people living with cerebral palsy.

The register will record symptoms, assessments and ongoing care for people living with the condition allowing improved surveillance and coordination with intervention programmes.

To encourage a collaborative approach toward the development of the register, a steering group has been established that includes parents, patients, representatives from all health boards, and other health leads.

"We are keen to engage people with cerebral palsy and their families in the development and content of the register and plan to use it to drive increased awareness and service improvement." says Jenny Carroll, Consultant Physiotherapist and Director of Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales.

"We believe the register will make a difference to the lives of people living with cerebral calsy through more equitable and evidence based services," says Powys Consultant Community Paediatrician and Bevan Commission Fellow, Rachel Lindoewood.

Representatives from NHS Wales Informatics Service have recently attended the first two informatics subgroups of the national steering group. At the forefront of discussions is the potential to incorporate the register with the Welsh Community Care Information System, particularly through physiotherapy.

"It's important that we're involved in these projects at an early stage. It means we can start those conversations on how projects like these can become part of our systems," says our National Clinical Informatics Lead,  Joanna Dundon.

The project has been featured in the latest report from the Chief Medical Officer in Wales.
Digital Health Ecosystem Wales announces new API for reference data

A new application programme interface (API) offering one-stop access to key reference data used by NHS Wales has been launched.

The new API provides access to the reference data or codes used to identify individuals and organisations within NHS Wales, such as health boards, GPs and GP practices.

It is the second API to be released through the Digital Health EcoSystem Wales (DHEW), a collaboration between the NHS Wales Informatics Service and the Life Sciences Hub Wales supported by Welsh Government.

The latest API is a jumping off point for industry and developers to use for research and development and for system testing, for example, informing the development of new apps to support system integration and personal healthcare management.

While access to individual organisational codes is already available, the new API provides developers with a single-point of access to all codes, held in a central repository by the NHS Wales Informatics Service.

"Computer systems rely on this reference data to help underpin many of the functions they provide. Enabling patients to consult with a community pharmacist or routing electronic referrals from primary to secondary care are just some examples," says Geoff Norton, NHS Wales Informatics Service Software Development Manager.

"Using this approach," he adds, "ensures data about an organisation or individual is always described in the same way when information is shared between computer systems and across organisational boundaries."

The first API released by the Informatics Service and DHEW provides developers with a practical understanding of how they can build systems to verify the demographic details of patients across Wales. This is now supported with access to organisational reference data.
GP Practices make IT systems choice

Following the award of a new framework contract to supply GP IT systems and services to NHS Wales, practices in Wales were asked to select between the two successful suppliers, Microtest and Vision.

The results were 111 practices choosing Microtest, and 305 practices chose Vision.  The practices heard from both the suppliers at a series of roadshows held around the country during April and May, and were asked to submit their final decision by the end of May.

The first migrations to the new systems will take place in January 2019.

System iechyd plant newydd nawr yn fyw

Mae system iechyd plant newydd, System Integredig Plant a Phobl Ifanc (CYPrIS), nawr yn fyw ym Mwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Aneurin Bevan.

Mae cymhwysiad CYPrIS, a ddatblygwyd gan Wasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru, yn sicrhau bod gan bob plentyn yng Nghymru gofnod gofal gweithredol. Mae ei lansiad nawr yn golygu y bydd gan glinigwyr fynediad at fwy o wybodaeth am iechyd plentyn a byddant yn gallu gwneud penderfyniadau mwy gwybodus am opsiynau gofal.

Cymhwysiad CYPrIS yw'r pedwerydd o'i fath i gael ei ddatblygu gan Wasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru ac mae'n darparu swyddogaeth gynhwysfawr ar gyfer nifer o raglenni iechyd cenedlaethol, fel y Rhaglen Genedlaethol Imiwneiddio Plant a Phlant Iach Cymru.

Mae hefyd yn ategu rheolaeth gyffredinol iechyd plant, trwy ddarparu data a gofynion adrodd statudol i GIG Cymru ac Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru.

Dywedodd Gill Davison, Rheolwr Cymwysiadau Cymunedol Gwasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru, "Mae lansio'r system newydd hon yn golygu, am y tro cyntaf, bod un ystorfa genedlaethol ar gyfer holl ddata iechyd plant.  "Gyda'r mynediad gwell hwn at wybodaeth, gallai gweithwyr iechyd proffesiynol ddechrau gweld cynnydd yn nifer y plant sy'n cael eu himiwneiddio ac sy'n defnyddio gwasanaethau sgrinio, lle amlygir bylchau mewn cofnodion iechyd.  Hoffwn hefyd ddiolch i Swyddfa Iechyd Plant Aneurin Bevan am y gefnogaeth y maen nhw wedi'i rhoi i'n timau yn ystod y cam datblygu hwn."

Bydd CYPrIS yn parhau i gael ei gyflwyno ar draws byrddau iechyd yn ystod 2018 a 2019. Bydd y cymhwysiad yn cael ei ddatblygu ymhellach i gynnwys nifer o integriadau allweddol, fel rhyngwyneb meddygon teulu, a System Wybodaeth Gofal Cymunedol Cymru (WCCIS).
Gweithgor cydweithredol yn anelu at arloesedd Parlys yr Ymennydd

Mae prosiect newydd ar waith sy'n canolbwyntio ar lunio cofrestr genedlaethol a gwella gwasanaethau yng Nghymru ar gyfer pobl sy'n byw â pharlys yr ymennydd.

Bydd y gofrestr yn cofnodi symptomau, asesiadau a gofal parhaus ar gyfer pobl sy'n byw â'r cyflwr, a fydd yn caniatáu goruchwylio gwella a chydlynu â rhaglenni ymyrryd.

I annog ymagwedd gydweithredol at ddatblygu'r gofrestr, sefydlwyd grwp llywio sy'n cynnwys rhieni, cleifion, cynrychiolwyr o bob bwrdd iechyd, ac arweinwyr iechyd eraill.

"Rydym ni'n awyddus i ymgysylltu pobl â pharlys yr ymennydd a'u teuluoedd â datblygu a chynnwys y gofrestr, ac rydym yn bwriadu ei defnyddio i hybu ymwybyddiaeth gynyddol a gwella'r gwasanaeth," meddai Jenny Carroll, Ffisiotherapydd Ymgynghorol a Chyfarwyddwr Canolfan Therapi Plant Bobath Cymru.

"Credwn y bydd y gofrestr yn gwneud gwahaniaeth i fywydau pobl sy'n byw â pharlys yr ymennydd trwy wasanaethau tecach ar sail tystiolaeth," meddai Pediatrydd Cymunedol Ymgynghorol Powys a Chymrawd Comisiwn Bevan, Rachel Lindoewood.

Yn ddiweddar, mynychodd cynrychiolwyr o Wasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru ddau is-grwp gwybodeg cyntaf y grwp llywio cenedlaethol. Ym mhen blaen y trafodaethau yw'r potensial i ymgorffori'r gofrestr â System Wybodaeth Gofal Cymunedol Cymru, yn enwedig trwy ffisiotherapi.

"Mae'n bwysig ein bod ni'n gysylltiedig â'r prosiectau hyn yn gynnar. Mae'n golygu y gallwn ni ddechrau'r sgyrsiau hynny ynghylch sut gall prosiectau fel y rhain ddod yn rhan o'n systemau," meddai ein Harweinydd Gwybodeg Clinigol Cenedlaethol, Joanna Dundon.

Fe wnaeth y prosiect ymddangos yn adroddiad diweddaraf Prif Swyddog Meddygol Cymru.
Ecosystem Iechyd Digidol Cymru yn cyhoeddi API newydd ar gyfer data atgyfeirio

Lansiwyd rhyngwyneb rhaglen cymwysiadau (API) newydd sy'n cynnig mynediad un stop at ddata atgyfeirio allweddol a ddefnyddir gan GIG Cymru.

Mae'r API newydd yn darparu mynediad at y codau neuâ'r data atgyfeirio a ddefnyddir i amlygu unigolion a sefydliadau o fewn GIG Cymru, fel byrddau iechyd, meddygon teulu a meddygfeydd.

Dyma'r ail API i gael ei ryddhau trwy Ecosystem Iechyd Digidol Cymru (DHEW), sef cydweithrediad rhwng Gwasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru a Hwb Gwyddorau Bywyd Cymru, a gefnogir gan Lywodraeth Cymru.

Mae'r API diweddaraf yn fan cychwyn ar gyfer y diwydiant a datblygwyr i'w ddefnyddio ar gyfer ymchwil a datblygu, ac i brofi systemau, er enghraifft, llywio datblygu apiau newydd i gefnogi integreiddio systemau a rheoli gofal iechyd personol.

Er bo mynediad at godau sefydliadol unigol eisoes ar gael, mae'r API newydd yn rhoi un pwynt mynediad i ddatblygwyr at yr holl godau, a gedwir mewn ystorfa ganolog gan Wasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru.

"Mae systemau cyfrifiadurol yn dibynnu ar y data atgyfeirio hwn i helpu tanategu llawer o'r swyddogaethau y maent yn eu darparu. Mae galluogi cleifion i ymgynghori â fferyllydd cymunedol neu gyfeirio atgyfeiriadau electronig o ofal sylfaenol i ofal eilaidd yn rhai enghreifftiau," meddai Geoff Norton, Rheolwr Datblygu Meddalwedd Gwasanaeth Gwybodeg GIG Cymru.

"Mae defnyddio'r ymagwedd hon," ychwanegodd, "yn sicrhau bod data am sefydliad neu unigolyn bob amser yn cael ei ddisgrifio yn yr un ffordd pan gaiff gwybodaeth ei rhannu rhwng systemau cyfrifiadurol ac ar draws ffiniau sefydliadol."

Mae'r API cyntaf a ryddhawyd gan y Gwasanaeth Gwybodeg a DHEW yn rhoi dealltwriaeth ymarferol i ddatblygwyr ynghylch sut gallan nhw adeiladu systemau i ddilysu manylion demograffig cleifion ledled Cymru. Caiff hyn ei ategu nawr gyda mynediad at ddata atgyfeirio sefydliadol.
